Worship

Sunday Worship Service

Our worship service is held on Sunday at 10:30AM in the sanctuary. No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you're welcome here.  Our service and music are traditional, but our message is progressive and inclusive. We encourage all visitors and members of our congregation, regardless of age, to join us for Sunday Worship.

Grand Central Stations

Grand Central Stations, First Central's own unique Christian Education program for children 3 years old through 6th grade, is on Sunday mornings at 10:45 a.m. It is a Bibically-based, interactive church school based on the workshop rotation model. Children attend worship with their families, then leave as a group with their teachers following the Conversation With the Children (generally around 10:45 a.m.) Come anytime, we love to have visitors; parents may stay with their children until they (or you) feel comfortable being there. You are welcome to visit during the week to see the classrooms.

Nursery and Childcare

Nursery care is also available for preschoolers during the service. However, all children are welcome to remain in worship. Our nursery is a bright, warm, and loving place for our youngest members. It is on the Courtyard level and usually has a lively crowd on Sunday mornings. Carolyn and Melissa welcome infants and preschoolers on Sunday mornings from 9:45 AM to 11:30 AM.

Labyrinth

Members of all faiths and beliefs are welcome and can find meaning in walking the labyrinth. The labyrinth at First Central is open for meditation 24 hours a day. Parking during business hours is available in the lot on the east side of the church. On weekends and evenings parking is available in the lot across the street on the west. Click here to learn more about using the Labyrinth.

Noon Meditation

The Sanctuary is available for quiet reflection, prayer, and meditation. Call the church office for availability, or visit Monday through Friday, from 11 AM to 1 PM, during our open sanctuary hours.

"Sanctuary" Spirituality Group

On Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. we  offer “Sanctuary” as a time for prayer, study, reflection, and worship. The weekly program has three components. We open with a prayerful reading and reflection on scripture using a method called lectio divina. If you are unfamiliar with this method, then come learn about it. The second component is a book discussion. This fall we began Richard Foster’s Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth. Foster, a Quaker minister, has led the resurgence in spiritual practices in recent decades. This fine book is a helpful introduction to spiritual disciplines such as meditation, simplicity, confession, study, and celebration. The third component of the weekly gathering will be an opportunity to pray for one another and the concerns of our church, community, and world. Finally, on the first Wednesday of every month, we will experiment with a “diversity in worship” night, trying different styles of worship such as Taize, Celtic, Emergent, etc. What we do in the gathering will develop organically over time.

You are invited to experience something new in order to enrich your faith and spiritual life. And invite your friends who might be interested in spirituality but maybe aren’t sure they want to visit a normal Sunday morning worship.
